Challengers Boys & Girls Club, a member of the Boys & Girls Club of America, is a non profit organization dedicated to promoting the optimum social growth of inner city youth ages 6 to 17 through leadership, citizenship and educational development; cultural enrichment; health and physical education; environmental education; social and recreational activities; and parent involvement.

One day in 1968, Lou Dantzler, a resident of South Central and father of two, loaded a dozen of these kids into his Ford pickup truck and took them to the park to play. After a headed game of baseball, the boys talked openly to Lou about their problems: pressure to join gangs, problems at school drugs, no dad at home, poverty and feelings of hopelessness. Lou saw the need for positive role models and a safe place away from the hard streets. A place that offered guidance, hope, education and recreation. He continued his weekend trips to the park as they grew from 12, 50, 200 and beyond..

Well that was then, today more than 30,000 youth have benefited from Challengers' programs since that trip to the park three decades ago. Thanks to the vision and passion of one man, Lou Dantzler, Challengers' dedicated staff, volunteers and a solid group of generous supporters, Challengers Boys & Girls Club continues to provide a positive place for kids, preparing them for the challenges of the next millennium.

Would you like to help us make a difference? We need people like you to donate time, energy, and financial support in a variety of areas, including tutoring, mentoring, administration, classroom support, and more.

Together, we will be able to help youth not only to meet educational and developmental needs, but help them cultivate goals and ambitions toward a brighter future. Our volunteers and donors say they feel rewarded many times over for the help they provide in making a difference in the lives of others.
